Application Tips

Surface Preparation for Successful Bonding of trim and moldings with acrylic adhesive

The best way to ensure a strong bond is with proper surface preparation. Why? No matter how robust your adhesive is, or how well-suited it is to your application, dust, grease, or other debris on the bonding surfaces will interfere with the adhesive’s ability to do its job. Adequate surface preparation ensures the cleanest contact and ultimately the strongest bond.

1.    With clean hands, prepare the surface of your application with a non-ammonia based cleaner. We recommend a 50/50 blend of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and water. The alcohol will dissolve any light grease and water will get rid of dirt and accumulated dust. (Do not use Windex, paint thinner or any other harsh chemicals as this will prevent the acrylic from bonding.) Cleaning wipes in convenient packs sold here.

2.    Allow at least 60 seconds for surface to completely dry and the alcohol to flash off. The surface should be dry prior to tape application.

3.    You have successfully prepped the surface for lifelong bonding. Apply and say goodbye!
